US News has revealed its traditional ranking of countries where it is best to live when you have children. The top 3 countries are European. But no, the US is not even in the top 10.
US News has just revealed its ranking of the 25 best countries in the world, as well as the ranking of the best countries where it is good to raise children. No surprise, Denmark is in first place, followed by Sweden and Norway.
“This ranking is based on a global survey of people’s perceptions and classifies countries according to different attributes: whether they care about human rights, family-friendly nations, the environment for gender equality, equal income, security and a well-developed public education and health system,” the authors point out.
The US at number 18
The three top places are therefore occupied by the Nordic countries, which offer, among other things, up to 52 weeks paid parental leave after the birth of a child (in Denmark) or 56 weeks at 80% of salary (in Norway).
This is followed by Canada (4th), the Netherlands (5th), Finland (6th), Switzerland (7th), New Zealand (8th), Australia (9th) and Austria (10th).
The US, on the other hand, is only 18th, behind Portugal, Italy and Spain.
